Penstemon Perennials Shrub Garden Plants in 5ltr Pot

Penstemon is a genus of plants that contains 250 species of perennials and subshrubs. It is famous for its spikes of tubular and bright colored, 2-lipped flowers. Full sun and poor to moderately fertile well-drained soil facilitates its growth. Many of its species are evergreen but a few are found to be semi-evergreen. Penstemon is generally used for bordering and bedding in gardens. It is imperative that it is protected when young as it is quite susceptible to slugs and snails at that time.

Penstemon Garnet: grows in bushes and is a vigorous perennial plant. It has narrow, dark green leaves which feel quite soft when touched. Deep wine-red flowers borne in erect spikes beautify its look during early summer and late autumn. Garnet can grow up to a height of 3 feet if it has perfect conditions which include exposure to full sun and availability of well-drained soil with low to medium moisture content. This showy flower attracts bees and hummingbirds and is best used for decoration of beds and borders in gardens.

Penstemon King George V': 'King George V' is an erect perennial which has lance-shaped leaves and grows to a height of 90 cm. It blossoms with bell-shaped crimson flowers with red markings in the white throat. It grows well when exposed to full sun and partial shade in sheltered surroundings. For best results it should be planted in well-drained soil with acid, alkaline, and neutral pH. It needs to be protected overwinter with dry winter mulch. King George V is also vulnerable to slugs and snails attack, hence, it is required that you use appropriate countermeasures against these pesky pets.
